Easily accessible from Oxford city centre, The Slow and Steady is Dodo's latest pub and their fourth site in the area, making it a fantastic addition to the local scene. The venue features a stunning transformation of its interior and garden, that honours the building’s original architecture while infusing it with Dodo's unmistakable vibe. The name pays homage to its architect, Henry Hare, who also designed The Oxford Town Hall, highlighting the venue's rich history and the thoughtful care taken to preserve it. The 'Slow and Steady' motif, featuring a hare and tortoise, creates a cohesive theme throughout the space.
While most of the changes have taken place indoors, the large patio area at the rear and side has also been beautifully revamped. Inside, the pub now shines with a bright, inviting atmosphere. The upstairs function room has been enhanced with table football and other games, while the main upstairs space—known as the ‘library’ and is partly lined with books — remains available for hire. Vibrant neon signs, welcoming tables, and the expansive outdoor area caters for a diverse crowd, while the games arcade, complete with classic arcade machines, adds another layer of fun.
With its lively atmosphere and a strong sense of community, The Slow and Steady is the ideal spot to embrace life at your own pace—the clue is in the name!
